Nelson’s Body Shop, Inc.

FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED

In 1926, Verling Nelson and his wife, Esther, began Nelson’s Body Shop with the idea of having a family owned and operated auto repair shop. From the first day, Nelson’s Body Shop set out to provide quality repairs and superior customer service. It all began in a garage on High Street located in St. Marys, Ohio. As business grew, Nelson’s Body Shop moved out from a small garage into a full service shop by investing in 800 South Wayne Street – where Nelson’s currently resides today.

In 1980, Verling retired leaving the shop to his son Charlie Nelson. During that time, Charlie was known as a bus driver for the St. Marys School District by day, and as the man who drove the red, white, and blue tow truck with “Here Comes Charlie!” on it in the evening. Charlie owned the shop for 24 years before retiring in 2004. Nelson’s Body Shop was then passed down to the third generation of Nelson’s. Currently his two sons, John and Jay, can be found running the shop. It was a natural transition for the two who have over 35 years of experience between them. Nelson’s Body Shop offers the same family friendly service Verling and Esther started over 90 years ago.

Nelson’s Body Shop is known for its 24-hour wrecker service, collision repair, roadside assistance, painting and welding. Nelson’s also offers free collision repair estimates and serves as an impound service for local law enforcement agencies. Nelson’s Body Shop has recieved awards in the past for donations to the St. Marys Police Department’s Shop with a Cop and children’s safety booklet programs. The business has also hauled members of the Memorial High Marching Band during parades, painted items for the school and donated crashed cars for pre-prom drunk-driving demonstrations. Nelson’s tries to help everyone and is dedicated to serving its community and our customers with family friendly service.
